TURNING A PROBLEM ON ITS HEAD
The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted the world in unimaginable ways, and while humans might be on the road to recovery, our streets, green spaces and oceans are under threat from a new wave of plastic pollution. Globally, we use 129 billion facemasks per month – in a straight line that’s enough to wrap around the world 550 times, with an estimated 1.5 entering the oceans in 2020.
In collaboration with NHS Royal Cornwall Hospital and Sterimelt, we're transforming facemask waste into the tools to tackle this plastic pandemic.
FROM WASTE TO RESOURCE
Our initial launch in April 2021, powered by a Kickstarter campaign, was supported by a crowd over 1250 backers.
We transformed recycled PPE into thousands of litterpickers, to both fund the project and to make a second impact by creating the tools and motive to tackle facemask waste in the environment. We’re now focused on scaling the project by:
- Ramping up our recycling and litter picker production efforts.
- Collaborating with every school in Cornwall and organisations such as Surfers Against Sewage to equip thousands of beach cleaners nationwide.
- Partnering with industry to make our recycled plastic commercially available.
