Limited edition sunglasses, with frames made from fishing gear recovered from a Humpback Whale entanglement. Designed in a rectangular sunglasses frame that suits a wide range of face shapes.
Paired with polarised Grey mineral Glass+ lenses, renowned for their UVA/UVB 400 protection, as well as exceptional optical clarity and durability.
The rescue
On 21st September 2023, a Raggy Charters vessel in Algoa Bay, South Africa, discovered a young humpback whale entangled in ropes and buoys that prevented it from diving and feeding.
The National Sea Rescue Institute launched a complex operation to free the exhausted whale, ultimately succeeding in saving its life. The whale has since been spotted alive and healthy.
The recovered ghost gear was sent to Waterhaul, where we transformed it into unique sunglasses that support marine conservation. £37.50 from each sale goes to the World Cetacean Alliance.

Made entirely from recycled fishing gear recovered from the whale entangled in ghost gear, in Algoa Bay, South Africa. Each frame is individually numbered as a tangible reminder of the marine life saved from this deadly plastic, and includes coordinates to where the rescue took place.

These frames are built with 100% recycled polypropylene fishing gear, recovered from the humpback whale rescue, and embedded with a story of positive ocean action.
Polypropylene is a lightweight, durable polymer, commonly used in fishing gear in forms such as ropes, bait bags and mooring lines.
In its recycled form, it's a versatile plastic suited to use in a very broad range of uses, and helps to give our frames a flexability that, when heated, allows you to make adjustments to your frames at home.
